BP has been at the fore front of IT for many years. We work with schools and with teacher training on provoking ideas and innovation in IT. We do this through the work BP children produce through IT in the curriculum. Oh and we have always taught children how to create programs, despite what some politicians say. We are not alone, there are some amazing teachers and children out there producing all sorts of work using IT to exemplify and create some stunning curriculum projects, themes and work.
Here are just a few samples of what we do.

Our youngest children combine art and I Pads.
E safety has always been covered at BP, for useful information as a parent and for a range of advice do go to our E safety page in the learning section under policies and guidance.
We use both I Pads and Chrome books. This technology offers a very low cost access to quality software and apps that revolutionises the work our children produce. Children who find writing difficult for example can record their ideas by speaking directly to a chrome book which instantly writes the exact phrases used including grammar. The ability of the child’s imagination and ideas is released. The technology enhances learning and offers another creative approach. It is a new tool to support teaching. We are now a google showcase school which besides showing off what we do gives us many more extras from Google.
Virtual and augmented reality is yet another learning tool. Watching children bring to life a Roman soldier, walking around Shackleton’s ship and hearing the voices of his crew struggling in the ice wastes brings a whole new learning experience to the children. The potential is frankly awesome! It will bring to life all sorts of learning and offer another way to motivate children to engage. It is new and it could easily become just a fancy frill if used badly. At BP it won’t, we have never leapt at technology simply to grasp the latest idea or gadget, we adopt innovation when we believe it will benefit our children. We are a lead school for the Discovery channel who are creating VR and AR materials. It means we can see in advance what is new and influence what we need in school.
It is an exciting time for staff, all of whom have supported what we do. Our local IT Learning Centre is working with us allowing us Martin and Andrew to work alongside teachers and pupils to great benefit for all. As things develop we will keep you informed.
