Community Links

The school has developed a range of links within the community and the services, which serve them. The police, fire and ambulance services visit the school on a regular basis and our close proximity to the railway links us to the services they provide on safety and the history and development of the railways in the area. We sponsor a number of children through their education under the charity Save the Children; we also regularly support a range of children’s charities as well as poppy, and lifeboat appeals. We have regular visits from the leaders of local churches, mosque and synagogue and have contacts with the Salvation Army with whom we collect at harvest for their work with the underprivileged. We use all these contacts to educate our children on care for the community and in the understanding of social issues relevant to their age as primary children.

European and Atlantic Links

The school is linked to institutions in Germany, Austria, Greece, Italy, Holland and Poland. Funded by the European Union and the school. We have new links established with Lake Charles, Louisiana and Chrisney, Indiana, USA.  The cultural, social and educational aims of the projects will broaden the horizons of our children and enable them to move towards opportunities across national boundaries. This is without doubt an important area for schools to develop if we are to provide genuine opportunities for our children to understand the world around them. We are regularly visited by education staff from around the world, keen to visit a popular, successful school.

School Governors

The school is run by its governing body through the Headteacher. The governors have a range of powers relating to the school and is made up of four elected parents, the Headteacher, another teacher elected by the staff, three local authority representatives three governors co-opted by the governing body and one support staff member. The co opted governors are often parents who have particular skills which will support the school.

Parents.

Parental involvement is extensively encouraged and is the key to many of the successes of the school. We actively encourage parents to help in school with a whole range of activities. The school actively seeks better ways to improve communication and is always open to suggestions made by parents. Parents are encouraged to meet with teachers when they have questions or concerns relating to their child or other matters and the staff make themselves available in the evening after school. The school PTA is very active and its social and fund raising activities provide additional resources for the children. The PTA also acts as another channel for parents to raise issues and questions and is often less formal than the governors. The school encourages parents to come forward with new ideas and ways to improve the school parent relationship and the successes to date illustrate the value the school places upon partnership.
