Attendance and Discipline.
We have a very concise discipline and attendance policy and all new parents are provided with a set of our rules in booklet form. The rules are deliberately simple and straightforward and incorporate our equal opportunities policy, which is very specific about the respect we have for the range of creeds, cultures and religions in our school and for the importance of treating all peoples with respect as individuals. We have very close links with the Education Welfare service and we carefully monitor the attendance of all pupils. The school is able to monitor the exact absence rate and reason for absence by its computerised recording system and this has the advantage of allowing the school to intervene in cases where absence is having a detrimental effect upon the education of an individual child. School Uniform. A school uniform is essential if a child is offered a place at the school, it is a simple and straightforward school uniform and consists of the BP sweatshirt and trousers or skirt and a pair of sensible shoes, trainers are not allowed. In the summer a specific summer uniform is prescribed. Further information on the uniform is available upon request. Special Needs. The school follows the Code of Practice for the identification and provision of children with special needs. The school has gained a reputation for its handling of children with special needs and schools and colleges regularly visit us from the UK and abroad. Our policy is available in our entrance area and the Headteacher is always very willing to discuss individual needs or the policy as a whole Sex Education Sex education is a sensitive area and the school has developed a policy, which enables parents to view the approach that is adopted. The programme provides children with a growing awareness of the biological, moral and spiritual dimensions of this vital area. Before a child is involved in the programme parents are invited to examine the teaching materials and to ask questions about the programme to the teacher taking the lessons. Religious Education The school is not affiliated to any denomination, but we have built close contacts with a range of faiths and churches. The school follows a religious education programme and if any parent feels withdrawal from this or our collective acts of worship is appropriate this can be arranged after discussion with the school
